Dentist, One Way Wrong Way

I went to the dentist today. I didn't have to have anything done so it's not very intersting really apart from the fact that on the way i found myself going the wrong way up a one way street (outside The Tube night club). In my defence, it used to be two way and the no entry sign and no left turn signs were both less visible than a big 20mph zone sign. Anyways I found myself a parking space and got a few funny looks but no harm done.

Kate, JJ and I came "middle of nowhere" (6th out of 9) in the quiz on Monday. Word is they lost the week before when I didn't go. Can't believe i'm that important really!

Four More August Leavers

I've not posted much recently as all it would have said was "Got up, went to work, came home, studied, went to bed" which doesn't make good reading for a lot of consecutive days. Sarah and John came up to Halifax last weekend which and it was good to see them again but apart from that nothing of note has happened since my last post. Until Friday that is...

It was Patrick's last day on Friday and with Cheryl leaving last week and Andy and Pat next week it was time for another leaving do. I didn't drink as much as last year but was still quite merry later on. There was almost more ex employees than current ones out which was strange but it was a fun evening in most respects. Hopefully the audit three will all be happy in their new positions.

Huddersfield Town always seem to put forward their kick off time when i'm hungover and Saturday's match against Nottingham Forest was no different. As they are supposed to be the best team in the league I went with Rob but didn't brave the singing section as I was still feeling a bit rough. I wasn't expecting much as they had won all their league games so far and we hadn't really lookded impressive but we totally dominated a very entertaining match and deserved more than a 1-1 draw.

Yesterday evening, JJ and I met up with Rosie who was in Halifax for the weekend for a meal and a drink or two or more. It turned out to be more. We all ordered Mixed Grils at Wetherspoons but the waiter came and said they didn't have any. We ordered separately steak, chicken and gammon so we could have made our own mixed grill. We assumed they'd run out of the ready made ones or didn't want to cook them at peak time. We ended up in Maine Street really early (2nd group of people in) and appreciated the reasons for it being called Maine Street. I'm sure there's never been any trees or platforms there though - Ed please confirm. There was no sign of falling roof below and the Coliseum was open as normal. It was great to catch up with Rosie and she's leaving too to go to London so good luck there.

Sadly the next two or three weeks are likely to consist of "Get up, study, go to bed" so i'll only post when something slightly more interesting is happening.

Bowling, Lack Of Activity

A couple of Saturdays ago I went bowling with Kate, Ellie and JJ in Halifax. It was my first visit to the new little alley. My scores were 62 and 72 placing me 2nd behind Kate. The lanes being too short is my pathetic excuse for these pathetic scores.

We then got 70 out of about 129 in the quiz but didn't go this week due to other commitments.

I went out with Rob on Saturday for Louise's birthday. She didn't join us but it seemed like a good opportunity to drink so we did. I met Phil, Richard and Amanda from the year 2000 and seem to remember spending a short time on stage at Jaks. Not good.

Cheryl left work today for pastures new so I hope that all goes well for her.

Not much else going on really that would be of interest to readers so i'll end this one here.

Eaten By Pool Shark

Last Wednesday was Kate's birthday so JJ and I joined her for a quiet drink. However in the pub we met a pair of guys from school. Mr Brook and Mr Lord, now living together ("but not in a gay way") near the scene of a recentmajor accident were chatty and so we joined them for the night. I was then challenged to a game of pool by them but was warned by Martin he was very good. In our first game, I was outclassed but only lost with one ball left on the table. In our second game, he had 3 visits to the table and only had the black to pot.

I hadn't potted anything and suddenly the "run round the table with your pants round your ankles" rule looked like it may backfire in a horrific way. Luckily he potted the white instead of the black and after only 3 more visits myself, I cleared up and won the game! I then beat Spencer who was a good match and more on my level. Martin then trounced me as in our first match though I feel after less beer he would've won by more. Kate and JJ then played out a new record slow game of 28 minutes with Kate once again triumphing on the black.

It was my dad's birthday too but he wants to go to sleep now so I must end the post here.

BBQ, Coli Collapse

Last Friday was the BADCASS BBQ which was held at a pub near Bingley. I stayed at Eppy's house meaning I could drink a bit. There was bowls but we stopped playing after one got lost in the nettles after a failed take out attempt bounced out of the playing area. There was rounders which lasted about 15 minutes after the same guy hit the 3 balls into unretrievable areas. There was space hoppers which provided much amusement, if being a little surreal. A very wobbly giant Jenga and a giant Connect 4 were also playable. There was food too of course! It was a nice evening on the whole and good tosee old pals again.

On Saturday I went out with Rob to Halifax and ended up with my 15th SI of the weekend. We ended up in Jumpin Jaks which was lucky as part of the roof fell in at the Colisseum with eight people being hospitalised but all released with minor injuries.

It was just the three of us at the quiz on Monday and we came 8th out of 9 with a "mediocre" 70 out of about 134.

Breakdown (Almost), Sociedad and Superman

Last Tuesday it was dead hot. My car wouldn't start after work as I couldn't get the ignition past the first turn. This meant, no electrics, air con or engine, or window opening. As it is a "clever" car it kindly beeps when the ignition is on or partly on when the door is open. So I was very hot and had to keep shutting my door everytime someone came to the car park. I eventually gave up and called the breakdown people. Less than a minute after i'd hung up, it turned and I could then go home (this was after 50 minutes breaking the old record by half an hour). I'm taking it to the garage next week to see if they can do anything as it's still a bit dodgy.

It started just in time or me to get home and changed and out again ready for Boothy's testimonial against Real Sociedad. It was a big occasion for pre-season but it was really poor and hopefully the rest of the season will be better.

On Thursday I went to see another Superman. The real one in Superman Returns. Kate was very late so we missed the start but it was only text explaining what had previously happened (i guess anyway if not I might have missed something quite vital). The conversation went something like:-

Kate "What did that say?"
Me "I don't know, we weren't here."

I got out of my mood after an hour or so and quite enjoyed the film as it was easy to follow if a bit tacky. I didn't like the digitally enhanced bit where he flies and stuff as it looked more like a computer game and was blantantly not Brandon Routh.
