Bowling God

Forget the deep and not so meaningful I mentioned as i'm happy again now. Mood swings eh!

It was student society bowling before my post last Wednesday. My action was receiving criticism from various quarters and my previous bowling efforts (see earlier posts which I can't be bothered to find) haven't really been up to much so it was a shock to all including myself that I was quite decent.

We had a nice buffet to begin with (mental note - pies make me bowl better) then a couple of games. In the first game I had six spares in the first seven goes and finished on 105 beating the mighty 100 mark. I started off the second game in usual style scoring seven after two goes but then came three strikes in a row (a turkey) and I won on our lane (I can't remember the last time I won) with 117 against creditable opposition too. Although on aggregate I was about 5th out of 21 (another good turnout) even beating some males (including my brother) in the process. There was only Cheryl out of the girls who beat me but she doesn't count - different league and all that :-)

It was nice to see some people I haven't seen for a long while and was good fun. Then we went into town and I suddenly lost all enthusiasm so went home after one J2O. Sorry for being boring. I should point out at this point I realise there is a slight exaggeration in the title but it sounds better than "Bowling Respect Earned At Last".

I'm going for my record of 120 next time. Only held it about 10 years!!!

Dime Bars, Quiz History

A bag of mini Dime Bars was our prize for losing in the quiz on Monday. Amazingly it appears to be the first time i've been on a team coming last since December 2004. While it may not seem amazing to many new readers, the history goes a little like this.

Me and some guys from school had a team and we tried real hard, half of them quit, Sarah got married, I shoulda known we'd never get far. Oh i look back now... and remember how bad we were losing pretty much every week even when there were up to 9 or 10 of us on the team so not losing for two years is still a decent achievement.

There were only five teams and we were only 2 behind 4th with 74 out of 142. Last week we were 4th out of six with 86 out of 128 so it was a much harder quiz this time around with no rubbish teams and no outside help.

In a spooky coincidence, last time we lost the quiz, I won the raffle, and this happened again on Monday. This is my 4th victory and 3rd t-shirt, my other prize being 12 bottles of Christmas Ale.

I don't remember DJ Otzi's version of Summer of '69. That's probably a good thing. The Ashes start in ten minutes. I feel a deep and meaningful (well actually not very meaningful at all) coming on...

Hard Work, Football, Night Out, Beer, TV

I'm turning into a real macho man!

I've not had much spare time recently what with working on the house and going out buying furniture and the like. We've been to the quiz for the last two Mondays but i'll do that in the next post.

JJ and I met up with Kate and some of her G & S mates on Friday night in Halifax. We managed not to get our eyebrows bitten off like Paddy Kenny even though according to his manager in another interview it is a "regular occurrence" in Halifax.

We didn't get out until about 9:00 so to catch up I had a pint of Magners then a pint of Kronenbourg (which was quite nice for a beer) before settling on the SIs. This was a big mistake as I ended up being hungover until mid afternoon. No doubt i'll do it again. I was just getting some practice in before Christmas.

We bought a TV yesterday. It looks awesome!

Shopping - Big Time

Today Phil and I both bought new beds and a new reclining leather sofa with two reclining leather chairs. Wallpaper was decided for my bedroom and mum seems to want to take over by changing every room in the house. This won't happen.

In other news the A1GP of China took place today on a brand new street circuit in Beijing. It seems a little pointless as possible the best chance for overtaking seems to narrow into an area only wide enough for one car and I wouldn't like to be the drivers who near pretty much on the floor of the car as there are so many big bumps i'll be surprised if none are uninjured.

Stripping

No, not a live post from La Salsa! I've been stripping wallpaper off today. There's three rooms which need doing, another which requires painting, two or three floors need replacing maybe with laminate (wood not like laminated paper (obviously)), a new BT line installed, Sky fitted, all the furniture and stuff to move in and buy (not in that order) and that should be that. Hopefully we'll be in in a month but lots of things can happen in a month so who knows?

Completion

I now have the keys to my house. How cool is that?!

We went shopping this morning for about three hours and bought a kettle and a vacuum cleaner. This has brought me back down to earth somewhat!

So, Last Friday

My apologies for the abrupt end to my last post. I was sat by myself in a pub for what I thought was going to be 35 minutes. It turned out to be five minutes as I was joined by fellow Old Crocs Messrs Lord, Irving, and Bateman. So we had a quick catch up and then the night went downhill. I was Rob's guest his his mate's brother's engagement party at Bar Eleven. We knew no-one else there and it seemed that was the case with half of the people there as everyone looked bored out of their mind. The buffet was good, as were the Smirnoff Ices. We then ventured to Jumpin Jaks and got in for free as it was deserted when it is normally full. Perhaps the reopening of the former La Mania had something to do with it.

On Saturday Rob and I went to watch Huddersfield Town play Scunthorpe. It was just another game really, not drab but not really exciting with 1-1 being the final scoreline. Also at the weekend my fantasy football team reached the top 10,000 for the first time this season. Don't think the £125k is on this year :-(

And finally, just a quick note to say I get the keys to my new house tomorrow so i'm off work. I might even find time to do a quick post to give people who are bored on a Friday afternoon to look at :-) I aim to please.

Aren't Traffic Wardens Such Nice People?

As a special treat Blog fans, you get a rare picture post. The picture above shows my little red car with a ticket on the left and a penalty charge notice on the right. This happened last Friday when I was in Sheffield in the work car for the day and I was very angry to find ths on my windscreen so I got my new 2 megapixel camera phone out for proof I had indeed got a ticket. Look at it!

The date is for the morning after and the time I found it was about 4:45. Being angry I just left it there to show my injustice to others. Anyway when it came to going home, I took it off the windscreen only for it to be two-sided with the following message written on:-

"THIS IS A WARNING NOTICE. BEWARE OF LEAVING VALUBLES ON DISPLAY IN YOUR CAR YOU HAVE LEFT GLOVE BOX OPENWITH MONEY IN PLAIN VIEW!!!" So grammar isn't his strong point but that's not really the point. Sure enough when I'd got my driving glasses out earlier I had left the glove box open with a bag of coins in plain view. I didn't know they were there. I think they must have been put there about a year ago and I'd just forgotten. Anyway if any burglars are reading, it's no longer there and I've learnt my lesson. Maybe it's a lesson to all car owners out there.

Elland Bonfire

If that's what you're searching for you've come to the right place for information.

This year it will be held at Hullen Edge Playing Fields on Saturday 4th November. Gates open at 5:30, chrildren's fireworks at 6:00 (sounds dangerous!) and the main display at 7:00. It's £3 for adults and £1.50 for children.

Don't arrive at about 8:15 as I did last year as it will have finished by then! It sounds good this year but can it rival Abba night on The X Factor?!!!
